Is Daniel Dumile, better known as DOOM, a prick or maybe just going insane? Over the past year or so there have been an increasing number of reports of him no-showing at gigs, lip synching at the shows he has shown up to, and phoning his performance in when he doesn't lip synch.
It seems to have happened again this weekend in Los Angeles. According to eyewitness reports, a DOOM imposter showed up, never touched the mic, and simply played songs off of a laptop. One attendee claimed that an audience member jumped on stage, demanded his money back, and then got punched in the face by an unknown performer.
DOOM's recent behavior in live settings has been worse than early-career Chan Marshall, and not nearly as interesting an insight into a difficult artist. With DOOM's predilection to shy away from the public eye, it seems to mean that there will be very few explanations for the frustrating behavior. [The Daily Swarm]
This just irks me. His whole "villain" thing is really getting played out.
He may go down as the greatest scam in hip hop history.
Early-career Chan Marshall was charming.
I get where Doom's going with these "character" studies, but I'd be bummed too if I paid the dough and got a fake.
Chan Marshall has certainly enjoyed two separate careers. Her intimate guitar-and-vocal shows and records were much better than the bluesy CHANel-frontwoman we have now. Some people should stay in their shell.
