You might have heard rumors of a massive blockbuster deal between the Red Sox and the Dodgers earlier today. It started with reports that the Dodgers claimed Adrian Gonzalez off waivers. Most baseball writers thought that it wouldn't happen within the 48-hour window the two teams had to put together a deal.
Then they agreed to one. Surprise!
Going to Chavez Ravine will be Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto. While the Dodgers agree to send James Loney, Allen Webster, Jerry Sands, Ivan De Jesus and Rubby De La Rosa (read: Loney and a lot of prospects) to Bean Town.
While no official announcement has been made by either team it is expected shortly. Both Gonzalez and Loney were scratched from the lineup tonight.
Is this a huge deal for the Dodgers? Maybe. Crawford and Beckett have been largely disappointing this year while Gonzalez's power has disappeared. On the other hand, all three have a track record of being good to great. Either way, the NL West is going to be super interesting down the stretch.
As for the Red Sox? They are hardly recognizable now.
