Beloved British post punkers The Mekons have had a storied career that has taken some intriguing twists over the years. Birthed into same polemic driven northern English music scene that also produced Gang of Four and Delta 5, the band subsequently took diversions into folk and country infused punk, signed a major label deal, and shifted to Chicago.
Sounds like the making of a good documentary, right? New York filmmaker Joe Angio certainly thinks so, and he is currently prepping a feature on the band titled Revenge of the Mekons. Angio is trying to raise funds to help finish the movie, and he is almost at the halfway point to reaching his $20,000 total on Kickstarter. Head over to this page to contribute and to win prizes, depending on how much cash you can shell out.
Angio also spoke to the Quietus about his project earlier this week. “They follow their own muse; they define "success" on their terms; they simply refuse to kowtow or play the game,” he said of the band members. “Which leads me to the primary questions that drive the film: How does a band that has never "made it" survive for so long? And, perhaps more to the point, why do they bother?” Further information on the film is available at Angio’s official website.
