Dirty Pretty Things release free single

Last week Carl Barat of Dirty Pretty Things slagged Coldplay for giving away their single “Violet Hill,” saying that only rich bands could afford to release free songs.  Seems that Mr. Barat either won the lottery over the weekend or realized that those who stand in the way of progress are often run over by it. Rather than remain a voice against the current trend of offering music to fans gratis, Dirty Pretty Things will offer “Hippy Son,” a song from their forthcoming album Romance at Short Notice for free at the band’s website. Romance at Short Notice will be released on June 30 and an official single, “Tired of England,” comes out on June 23.

Once again we fail to do our homework and understand the whole concept of free music. Did we hear of the host of Libertines bootlegs that have been available for free for the last 4 to 5 years? All things considered I may not be a fan of either of the two bands mentioned here, but either way I am surprised by this slightly obvious misinformed banter on the part of our respected music critique Mr. Burr.
