Ahh… remember those days? With all the M.I.A. hullabaloo these days and Diplo becoming something of a punching bag, it’s only fair to shine the light back on his DJ skills.
So here’s a nightcap from Wes: WFMU blog is streaming Diplo’s pre-Major Lazer opener set at this year’s Primavera Sound Festival. The set is pretty great for anyone that hasn’t seen/heard him live in the last couple years as it summarizes in 20 minutes many of his hot-button beat interests: “African folk to Dutch DJ Sandro Silva to Hot Chip, with signature nods to Brazilian baile funk, M.I.A… and plenty of laser beam effects.”
Spain’s annual mega-festival came and went this past May, but the most excellent WFMU was permitted to record and archive a significant chunk of the performances. This year featured loads of Prefix favorites: Wire, The Clean, New Pornographers, The Fall, Pavement, Condo Fucks, Orbital, King Khan, Lee Perry, Liquid Liquid, Mission Of Burma and many, many more. MP3s of some of the performances can be found at the Free Music Archive. And the WFMU blog has playlists, streams and reports on many of the performances.
