Dinosaur Jr’s J Mascis Announces Yet Another Band

Apparently touring and recording with Dinosaur Jr, Witch, and his own J. Mascis + The Fog outfit — as well as lending a hand to recordings by avant rock outfits on Thurston Moore‘s Ecstatic Peace label like Free Kitten and Hush Arbors — just wasn’t enough for J Mascis. Solidifying his stature as the hardest working man in Marshall stack fortified grayhair showbiz, he has joined John Petkovic and Tim Parnin from Cobra Verde, along with Witch’s Dave Sweetapple to form Sweet Apple. The band was birthed when Petkovic found himself depressed and directionless after the death of his mother. Mascis encouraged him to write some songs, they recruited a couple more close friends and previous collaborators, and Sweet Apple was born. The group’s MySpace page doesn’t currently have any song previews available, but their debut Love and Desperation due on Mar. 30 from Tee Pee Records.
