In a sure sign that Norway is either the most progressive nation in the world or that its citizens are harbingers of the apocalypse, the popular black metal group Dimmu Borgir entered the Norwegian album charts at #1 this past week with their new album, In Sorte Diaboli. It was the first time ever that a black metal group had topped the charts of any nation - Satyricon made it to number 2 in Norway with Now, Diabolical last year, as did Dimmu with their previous album, the over-the-top symphonic metal opus Death Cult Armageddon Perhaps even more disturbing/awesome is that In Sorte Diaboli even cracked the American Billboard charts at a respectable #43, making it the first Norwegian act since A-ha to make a commercial dent stateside. Raise your chalice and hail Odin - the vikings are coming.
