Three of the best sales weeks in the recorded history of digital downloading have occurred in the last two months. Powered by massive hits from Justin Bieber, Gotye, fun., and Maroon 5, Billboard has reported on a noticeably stronger trend of digital music purchases. Both Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" and Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" raked in over half a million purchases each in the week after they were released, with Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa's "Payphone" very nearly reaching the milestone. Fun. and Janelle Monae's "We Are Young" racked up a record seven consecutive weeks pulling in 300,000 or more downloads. Billboard also notes that for the past eight weeks, the top-selling song had raked in over 300,000 downloads, another record.
