Die Antwoord, an Ali-G-inspired crew of South African faux-rappers, have gone from meme to major in about four weeks, riding their Internet viral video success to a major-label contract with Interscope. Apparently the group enchanted label chief Jimmy Iovine, who signed the group after one sit down. Die Antwoord are working on a debut album as we speak, and they are also scripting a movie. There's no word on when any of these projects will see release (probably soon, so that we in Internet land don't move onto a cow that can play the cello).
In other Die Antwoord news, Disctrict 9's Neill Blomkamp is going to direct their next video. [Boing Boing}
I knew it the first moment I saw them! Not that I like the music, but I knew it...

Die Antwoord kicks electro rap's ass like Tenacious D slapped rock and metal's. Just 'cause it has elements of humor doesn't make them "faux". The skills and beats are real.
