Devendra Banhart to work on new album this fall

According to a message posted on his website, Devendra Banhart will start work on his next album in September, which may or may not be titled Smokey (apparently this will more than likely be the title to the film set to accompany the album instead)

The website states that the album is half extremely mellow, breezy, one quarter melancholic drone bummer, and one quarter equatorial pop. It will be recorded mostly in California (some of which will be on sea, as a boat is apparently being rented to record on) and will hopefully include guest spots from the likes of Vashti Bunyan, Vetiver, Matteah Baim of Metallic Falcons to name just a few.

Banhart will also be playing various festivals and UK dates in the coming months. Heres whats on tap:

07-30 Chicago, IL - Pitchfork Music Festival
08-12 Tokyo, Japan - Summer Sonic Festival
08-13 Osaka, Japan - Summer Sonic Festival
09-01 Stradbally, Ireland - Electric Picnic Festival
09-02 Glasgow, Scotland - ABC
09-03 Aberdeen, Scotland - Lemon Tree
09-05 Newcastle, England - University
09-06 Leeds, England - Metro University
09-08 Manchester, England - Academy
09-09 Nottingham, England - Festival Hall
09-10 Isle of Wight, England - Bestival
10-27 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Museum of Modern Art
