Devendra Banhart Finishes New Record, Leaves XL

Devendra Banhart has reportedly finished work on his sixth solo album (the follow up to 2007’s rough Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon) with Band of Bees leader/producer Paul Butler. The album might feature these songs we wrote about a while back, but we can’t say that for sure.

What we can say for sure is that the album won’t be coming out on XL, the label that released Banhart’s last two albums, as Banhart has reportedly left the label. There’s no word on what label will have Banhart, but I’m betting he’ll go the self-released with distribution from a bigger label route. [Pitchfork]
