Devendra Banhart Announces New Album, ‘Mala’

Devendra Banhart, who looks like a handsome graphic designer these days (a nice change from the naked ashram early years or the terrifyingly enormous beard phase), has announced a new album is in the works.

Mala is due sometime in Spring 2013, though a specific date hasn’t been set. This will mark Banhart’s first album with new label Nonesuch Records (2009’s What Will We Be was released on Warner Bros. Records) and produced with his longtime bandmate, Noah Georgeson. Nonesuch promises more album details and tour info “shortly.”

For now, tide yourselves over with this video (via Pitchfork) of Banhart performing two new songs (possible Mala tracks?) earlier this year in Chile.
