In a stunning turn of events, public opinion has sunk dramatically regarding rock band Nickelback, the face of popular music. Oh, this isn't satire? Sorry...
Fans of Detroit football are furious with the planned performance of the Canadian group at their upcoming Thanksgiving Day faceoff against reigning champs, the Green Bay Packers. A petition against the band's appearance has already garnered 27,000 signatures. If you read our other recent story on Nickelback, you would know that their fans are the least likely to have sex.
But it isn't all funny. Detroit Lions fans are really mad: their team is doing well (6-2) and their hometown has a rich musical history it does not want to stain with the unyielding, righteous howls of rock's Nicolas Cage. Created by Dennis Guttman, the petition to replace Nickelback's performance offers a statement that you can read below. [Yahoo!]
This game is nationally televised, do we really want the rest of the US to associate Detroit with Nickelback? Detroit is home to so many great musicians and they chose Nickelback?!?!?! Does anyone even like Nickelback? Is this some sort of ploy to get people to leave their seats during halftime to spend money on alcoholic beverages and concessions? This is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game. At least the people watching at home can mute their TVs. The Lions ought to think about their fans before choosing such an awful band to play at halftime.
