The short list for the Polaris Prize, the prize for best Canadian album, was announced yesterday, and some of our favorite albums made the cut: Braids, the Weeknd, Destroyer, Austra and Arcade Fire all made the cut, virtually clearing the way for French Canadian band Galaxie to win the whole thing in a few months.
My vote goes to the Weeknd, but the odds of them winning are pretty damn low (I assume). We'll find out on Sept. 19 when the winner is announced. Here's the short list:
Arcade Fire – The Suburbs
Austra – Feel It Break
Braids – Native Speaker
Destroyer – Kaputt
Galaxie – Tiger et Diesel
Hey Rosetta! – Seeds
Ron Sexsmith – Long Player Late Bloomer
Colin Stetson – New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges
Timber Timbre – Creep On Creepin’ On
The Weeknd – House of Balloons
