Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan is not a well man. After overcoming various drug addictions, he was taken ill earlier this month, causing numerous cancellations on the band’s self-styled Tour of the Universe. The tour is set to resume in Germany on June 8, and details about Gahan’s illness have now been revealed.
The singer was apparently suffering from gastroenteritis when he collapsed in Athens, Greece, and further tests have revealed a low-grade malignant tumor in his bladder. Gahan has undergone surgery to have the tumor removed, but a lengthy period of convalescence has caused more dates to canceled on the tour.
The official Depeche Mode website has details of all the canceled shows and the newly rescheduled dates, and an official statement has been issued by the band: “Dave Gahan thanks fans for their support, understanding and patience. Depeche Mode deeply regret any problems or inconveniences the cancellations and postponements may have caused.”
