The body of Def Jam executive, Shakir Stewart (who took over for Jay-Z when he left in December) was found on Saturday. On Sunday, Atlanta police confirmed that Stewart died of a self-inflicted gunshot.
Stewart is most known for being the executive who signed Young Jeezy and Rick Ross to Def Jam, and rose to the top quickly at Def Jam, working there for only four years.
Stewart’s fiancée, Michelle Rivers, released a statement on Sunday about Stewart’s death:
"Over the past several weeks, Shakir's behavior was inconsistent with the man we all know and love. As much as we all tried to help him, Shakir was in deep pain and largely suffering in silence."
It’s not known what provoked the suicide, or how this will affect Def Jam in the future. [MTV]
