Def Jam Exec Explains Ghostface's R&B Record (Video)

· by

Remember back in June when Ghostface dropped the best quote of the decade about how he wouldn't be doing songs about coke anymore, and his next album would be all R&B? Well, turns out dude wasn't just blowing smoke: According to Lenny Santiago, an A&R man at Def Jam, in an interview with MTV, Ghost really is going to release an R&B heavy album (titled Wizard of Poetry) that finds him teamed up with the likes of Estelle, John Legend, Musiq Soulchild, and others. The interview is above. Here's what Santiago said:

“The new album is called The Wizard of Poetry,” Santiago said. “It is an R&B album. When I say that, this is what I mean: Ghostface usually raps over melodic, soulful R&B tracks. This time, we came around and I had him rhyme over the same type of tracks, but we matched him with great R&B stars. John Legend is on there. Raheem DeVaughn is on there. Estelle is on there. Musiq Soulchild is on there. Lloyd is on there. We just paired him up. It’s the same Ghost, the same gritty host, the same Ghost that talks to the ladies in that soulful voice along with R&B hooks. The Wizard of Poetry: September.”

Should be an interesting record. As someone who has liked all of Ghost's recent coke records (and his older ones too), I'm intrigued as to how this will actually sound. It could be good, but it could also be terrible. We'll have to wait to September. [NahRight]
