Bradford Cox completes a busy week with a special Deerhunter show in Atlanta tonight. The Halloween concert is designed as a Microcastle launch party, and features support from post punk legends Pylon, Jay Reatard and Times New Viking. The first hundred or so people at the show will receive a cassette of a session Cox recorded for 4AD in London, which he describes as being “a tribute to John Peel. It's like a pretend John Peel session.”The On Platts Eyott Island session is also streaming online at 4AD’s website, and offers some remarkably different takes on songs from Cryptograms, Microcastle, and Weird Era Cont. The ultra slow acoustic version of “Spring Hall Convert” is particularly spooky and makes for great Halloween listening. The notes on the session, which was recorded on an island (actually called Platts Eyot) on the River Thames, state that it is to be listened to in order and uninterrupted.
