It's certainly been a roller coaster year for the Atlanta-based boys in Deerhunter. The band's album Cryptograms seemingly burst out of nowhere, propelled along by blog buzz to become one of the landmark releases of '07. At times it's been hard not to feel subsumed by Deerhunter overload including band blog weirdness, members exiting and leaving Deerhunter, and frontman Bradford Cox's seeming need to always drop provocative lines to the press. All of those extracurriculars don't to anything to deny the quality of Cryptograms, though. For a Daytrotter Session that went up today, the band performed one of Cryptograms' tunes, "Heatherwood." Rounding out the four song set are "Dr. Glass," from the Fluorescent Grey EP, and two unreleased tunes, "Activa" and "Calvary Scars."
With '07 coming to a close, follow on after the jump to find out what the future holds for Deerhunter...
Cox announced on the band's blog this previous weekend that Deerhunter is soon to go on hiatus, saying that the band's concert in Barcelona on December 8 will be its "last for quite some time." It's not like Cox and his music are going to disappear, though. February 19 is still the scheduled release date for the debut album from his Atlas Sound project, entitled Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel. That record will come via Kranky.
