Track Review: Deerhoof "The Perfect Me"

Make no mistake, there's a lot riding on Friend Opportunity for Deerhoof. High-profile opening slots for the Flaming Lips and Radiohead have put the band in a position to tap into a much wider audience if they can bring the goods, and that's just what they do with the opening track.
"The Perfect Me" manically jumps from bouncy bubblegum pop--all clippity clop drums and sunshine--to balls-out rocker and back again in under three minutes. It's a perfect little chaotic, breakneck pop song, that--just-barely--stays on the right side of the playful/corny divide with Satomi Matsuzaki's affected, clipped cadence.
