Decemberists In The Studio With R.E.M.'s Peter Buck

The Decemberists have entered the studio to work on their sixth album (and follow-up to their tepid Hazards of Love), and they'll apparently have a semi-high-profile guest on board for this one: R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, who frontman Colin Meloy brought in to, as he put it, "play my fake-REM riffs." Meloy jokingly reports Buck didn't seem perturbed or litigious about the perceived plagiarism, which seems reasonable, since Buck isn't necessarily known as indie-rock's number one thug. I think the question is if Buck can focus Meloy, and prevent him from doing such overblown concept pieces. It's doubtful, probably. [P4K]

The Decemberists

"Buck isn't necessarily known as indie-rock's number one thug." Well there was that giant air rage scandal where he supposedly threw a drunken fit...This is promising news, since I agree Hazards of Love was quite "meh."
