Box sets are generally reserved for anniversary re-releases, but then again, The Decemberists are easily geeky enough to splurge on such excess. Today the band announced their sixth album The King is Dead will be released as a limited-to-2,500 box set consisting of a Polaroid photobook made up of pictures taken during the recording session, a CD and 180 gram white vinyl copy of the record, a 72 page hardcover booklet of more pictures, and a 30 minute making-of documentary by Aaron Rose – ringing you a hefty $165. The photos were all handled by rock-photog Autumn de Wilde of The Impossible Project and you can preorder the package over at the band’s website right now.
Of course you can always just buy the album, that’s only $13 and it even comes with all the songs! [CoS]
