Death Row Records Revitalized by Publishing and New Releases Deal

Music publisher EverGreen has partnered with WIDEawake, which recently acquired Death Row’s assets, to handle the licensing, royalty management, marketing and promoting of the label’s material.  This means the use of tracks such as California Love and Nuttin’ But a G Thang on TV shows and movies. It means video games with remixed songs. It means new releases, including unreleased Tupac material to honor his 2010 June birthday. EverGreen will also create a brand extension of Death Row called Hustle City, which will first be a graphic novel with a CD insert. This will expand into comic books, animated webisodes, games and a feature film.

Evergreen already owns the catalogs of Tupac, as well as 2 Live Crew, Third Eye Blind and MC Hammer. With this deal, the company picks up material by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound, Kurupt, Daz Dillinger and Nate Dogg. It also picks up unreleased albums by such artists as Crooked I, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, RBX, The Lady of Rage, Warren G, K-Solo, Danny Boy and DJ Quick. "Our goal is to continually breathe new life into Death Row," said WIDEawake founder and CEO Lara Lavi. [Billboard]
