Death Cab, She & Him, Band of Horses' singer on new Starbucks comp

In 2005, Starbucks released Sweetheart, a disc full of artists covering their favorite love songs. Thanks to the likes of M. Ward and Jim White, that disc actually had a couple of good tracks on it, but maybe not enough to make you forget it was from Starbucks. Well, on Jan. 30, the coffee juggernaut will release another volume of Sweetheart. This new collection will feature A.C. Newman taking on A-ha, Death Cab covering the Cure, She & Him trying to channel Screamin' Jay Hawkins, and Band of Horses' Ben Bridwell taking his shot at a George Harrison tune. Clearly, the Starbucks folks are banking on a lot of indie cred. Although, including Katy Perry on the disc might spoil that plan. The album's full tracklist is available at Pitchfork.

After Obama has gotten through all the really important new laws he's putting into effect, I would love him to get around to a ban on any more covers of the Cure's "Love Song" or Springsteen's "I'm on Fire."

The Chromatics cover of "I'm On Fire" is really good though. And he should extend that ban to "I Put a Spell On You." Covered to death, that one has been.
