Josh Dibb might not contribute much to Animal Collective these days, but he’s still out there making music. Dibb (better known as Deakin or Deacon) is planning a trip to Africa to play at the Festival in the Desert, which is set to happen in Mali on Jan. 7-9. Dibb can’t afford to pay for the trip, so he’s turned to the Kickstarter website for help.
Signed photos, hand numbered CDs of recordings he makes in Mali and a limited edition art book from the trip are all on offer depending on the size of the pledge people make to help him. But, like all Kickstarter projects, Dibb is on a tight deadline—he needs to raise $25,000 by Dec. 31, and a failure to reach that total may result in the plugs being pulled on the project.
At time of writing, $4,130 has been raised, and Dibb has explained why the costs are so high: “The traveling party to the Festival in Desert is comprised of three people and all the costs of international travel, transportation to the desert site, book production costs, CD replication, packaging costs, shipping, layout designer costs, etc... are what make up the financial goal that we are striving for. If there is any money left after these expenses, we plan to donate it to the Festival in the Desert."
Anyone who wishes to donate to the venture can check out Kickstarter here.
