Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar owners start new label

It's a new year, and along with it comes a new label in the Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar family. Dead Oceans will take its place beside its sister labels and will be run by the same staff, with the addition of former Misra label manager Phil Waldorf. The label promises tons of exciting news to come, including details on a SXSW showcase, and so far Dead Oceans is scheduled to put out releases by Bishop Allen, Dirty Projectors, Evangelicals, and Iran this year.

Pretty weird mix. Wonder why they decided to start up another label instead of adding these guys to SC or Jag though?

I agree with Dave. Not sure why another label is needed here. Why not add them to Brah or whatever the other Jagjaguwar label is. No matter what, I do know Phil is a good guy and I'm excited to see new Dirty Projectors and Evangelicals albums. So, you know, whatever.

p.s. Horrible logo. Just. Not. Good. If you are going to start a label at least start off with a kick ass logo and logotype. Am I right?

[...] The good folks over at Daytrotter recently had Evangelicals (who recently moved from Misra over to the new Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar offshoot, Dead Oceans) drop by for a live performance. The band plays two songs from So Gone, “Here Comes Trouble” and “Another Day” (mistakenly labeled “Another Way”–easy gaffe to make). They follow those up with an older unreleased track, “The Halloween Song (The Ghost of Abner E. Norman)” and newbie “Skeleton Man.” Detect a scary theme? Yeah, the session was recorded in October.            [...]
