'Daydream Nation' Film Includes Music By Broken Social Scene And Beach House

· by

The reputation of Sonic Youth’s epochal Daydream Nation only grows year after year, especially after the band did a full tour to commemorate its 20th anniversary a few years back. Now, the next logical step in its canonization has occurred, as a movie unrelated to the record has been released bearing the name Daydream Nation.

Writer/director Mike Goldbach announced the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival, and he continued the Sonic Youth theme by naming one of the characters Thurston. Clearly that record had a huge impact on this Goldbach guy. He also got Broken Social Scene to score the feature, and has managed to bring together Beach House and Emily Haines to contribute music to this trailer (above). Perhaps we just got a Singles for the 2010s?

When I heard the title I assumed it was connected to the classic SY album.
