David Lynch’s Announces New Album Fox Bat Strategy

When not broadcasting the weather from his home David Lynch is usually busy making films, but he’s recently delved into the world of music with two recent projects. His collaboration with Danger Mouse/Sparklehorse, Dark Night of the Soul, has gotten much attention and now a new seven-track album is due out, Fox Bat Strategy: A Tribute to Dave Jaurequi, for which Lynch wrote the lyrics and produced. The tribute goes to the guitarist and vocalist on the album, who was a session player for Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Jaurequi passed away in 2006, and the music has sat on Lynch’s shelves since then, he told Entertainment Weekly.

Fox Bat Strategy has some typical Lynchian qualities: the 1950s sound, the attempt at innocence that somehow succeeds at being sinister, and not least Lynch’s choice of Jaurequi as vocalist, since as Lynch tells it Jaurequi “was not a singer.” A strange choice, but that’s the hallmark of Lynch’s oeuvre. Fox Bat Strategy comes out June 30 from ADA and David Lynch Music. [Pitchfork; EW]
