David Lee Roth thwarted by a peanut

Van Halen singer David Lee Roth has faced some big challenges in his life. He had to watch in horror as his solo career faltered and Sammy Hagar steered Van Halen to unexpected levels of success. Then, in 1993, Diamond Dave was arrested for buying drugs in Washington Square Park. And in ’94 he plummeted to a depth that no artist should ever reach. Yes, he recorded a duet with Travis Tritt.

But now the man who sung “I get up, and nothing gets me down” has to face up to the fact that the lowly peanut most certainly has got him down. Ontario police are claiming they saved the singer’s life after he was pulled over for erratic driving on Tuesday. Roth was having an allergic reaction to eating something that contained nuts, and was rushed to hospital.

Idolator is reporting that the story isn’t true, but they don’t seem to have an official source. So let’s commiserate with the man Rolling Stone called “the most obnoxious singer in human history” by watching Van Halen’s highly entertaining entry in the Top 10 Stadium Rock show. [Canada.com]
