EMI is banking its past will provide for a better future at the beleaguered major label by trying to revive its catalogs and compilations division. While EMI has given the royal treatment in terms of repackaging music from The Beatles, the label says it hasn't done the same for Bowie. And man, did he kick ass between, say, 1971 and 1980, so let's seem some releases, rarities, DVDs, B-sides, outtakes etc. The new head of the C&C division admitted it might not be easy to persuade "ageing superstars" to agree to a rerelease of familiar material. Indeed, this is The Thin White Duke we're talking about here. He's more of a move-forward rather than revisit-the-past type of guy. More importantly why hasn't EMI released this Ricky Gervais-inspired gem yet? [Times Online]

The Ryko reissues that came out at the same time as the box were excellent as well! |

As far as rarities and b-sides go, all that stuff is pretty readily available. The Bowie backcatalogue got the royal re-release treatment with Ryko's "Sound + Vision" box set in the 90's.
I'd be much more interested hearing the thousands of hours of unreleased music db has said is just sitting around in an archive.
