Slate has an interesting study up this week about Dave Matthews Band, who according to the piece, made $500 million on touring between 2000 and 2009. The group sold more tickets in that time period than anyone else--11,230,696 total--and currently has 80,000 fans signed up for a $35 a year fan club. That's a lot of change, obviously. The article posits that the group has proven another alternative to selling records, but also that the band is a weirdly profitable behemoth.
