The Dark Night of the Soul album has been cloaked in secrecy up until now, so it’s surprising to find the whole record streaming online at Chrysalis Music Publishing. The record was conceived by Danger Mouse with help from David Lynch and Mark Linkous from Sparklehorse, but also features contributions from the Flaming Lips, Iggy Pop, Black Francis, Julian Casablancas and many others.
The first track, “Revenge,” features a vocal from Wayne Coyne, and doesn’t sound too different from most of the Flaming Lips' recent recorded output. Linkous’ influence can be keenly felt on the second track, “Just War,” which sounds like a countrified John Lennon track, and features vocals from (I think) Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals.
These tracks, and the rest of the album, are available on this website. Use the “Box” player on the left of the screen to stream the album.
