Wait a minute, wasn't the crap economy supposed to be an inspiration to struggling artistes? Ah well, it's conceivable this might have happened even in the best of times. The old two-family house in Bushwick, Brooklyn that has served as Daptone Records' office and studio since 2003 was robbed last night, and tons of musical and office equipment is missing. Adding insult to injury, the label that brought the world Sharon Jones, the Budos Band, Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens and others was still in the process of shopping around for insurance, so none of the stolen items was insured.
Co-founder Gabriel Roth says that since there's still a police investigation going on, they haven't yet been able to make a full tally of everything that's missing, but a partial list appears below. As Roth suggests in an open letter, sympathetic parties should keep an eye out online and in NYC thrift stores and music shops for equipment bearing suspicious similarity to the list. And if anyone can help this community-oriented, totally grassroots operation find bargains on the equipment they need to replace, please contact them.
Missing items cataloged thus far, as per Gabriel Roth:
Fender Super Guitar Amp in case
Fender Deluxe Guitar Amp
A whole bunch of headphones and wires
Nydia's HP laptop computer
One Desktop MacIntosh Computer
One Purple Audio API style lunchbox with four Purple Audio Biz mic pre-amps
2 Yamaha NS10 monitors
Vintage Harmony Rocket Guitar
One steel string acoustic guitar
Martin Tenor sax in a gig bag
Technics 1200 turntable
Ion USB turntable
Teac Receiver/stereo amp
Sony dual deck CD burner/player
All of our modem/phone system stuff was ripped out and taken.
A whole bunch of condensor and dynamic microphones (I still need to figure out exactly what's missing) The power supply for my Trident console was tossed and the board was moved (probably not gently) so the status of that is still questionable.
A baldwin organ was tossed and is probably broken.
