Daniel Johnston Releases Album With 11-Piece Orchestra

We’ve barely had time to get acquainted with Daniel Johnston’s last album, Is and Always Was, but here comes a new record fresh off the presses, apparently ready to be released this Friday (March 26) with little or no fanfare. Beam Me Up was recorded with the BEAM orchestra from Holland, whom Johnston has toured with in Europe.

Three unreleased solo songs are contained on the record (“Mask,” Sarah Drove Around in Her Car,” and “Last Songs”) alongside a number of reworked classics from his canon. Beam Me Up will be available on vinyl from the Hazelwood label, but is already streaming over here or can be downloaded over here.
