Dan Deacon, Tegan And Sara, James Blake, Janelle Monaé And More Auction Protest Signs For Charity

Under the Radar recruited more than 40 musicians and bands to pen original protest messages for the current issue, The Protest Issue. Two different covers are available, one has Dan Deacon modeling his personalized sign, "Your apathy is their reward"; the other features sister-group Tegan and Sara and their message: "The rights of the minority should never be subject to the whim of the majority." Other participating artists include Andrew Bird, James Blake, Matthew Dear, Death Cab for Cutie, Dum Dum Girls, Liars, Janelle Monaé, Tom Morello, of Montreal, Okkervil River, Amanda Palmer.

Messages vary from topical (Death Cab for Cutie, "For marriage equality"), to mildly threatening (EMA, "Make them bleed. Make them feel like I do like you do like we do like they do like thy do"), to direct (Silversun Pickups, "Don't be a dick..."), to suspiciously self-serving (The Love Language, "Wanna smooch?").

Now, the actual protest signs are being auctioned off on eBay, with proceeds benefiting global children's organization War Child. The auction is open from now until 2 p.m. on Oct. 23. [Pitchfork]
