Electronic musician Dan Deacon, producer of this year's impressive Bromst LP and absolutely insane live music force, has been hospitalized with acute sciatica, a condition of the lower back, and forced to cancel the remainder of the shows on his current tour.
Deacon's live show is a sight to behold, as dude plays on the floor with a table full of homemade instruments, flys around the crowd, messes with buttons that only he has any idea what they do, organizes dance-offs and generally blows minds. Thankfully for those who are affected by the cancellations, Deacon has rescheduled at least one of the shows he has canceled and hopefully more will follow.
According to the American Medical Association, sciatica is caused by pressure on the sciatica nerve in the spine, and manifests as pain from the back, hip and leg. The AMA also says that 80% to 90% of cases fix themselves with rest and require no surgical intervention. Good news. Get better, Dan. [Pitchfork]
this is a great write up
