Damon Albarn Likely to be Named Artistic Director for London 2012 Olympics

Damon Albarn has a long, complicated history with the British establishment. After the U.K. instituted tuition for their university system, Tony Blair invited Albarn to the white house, to which Albarn declined in a note declaring them a communist. Nonetheless, Albarn worked with the BBC for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and given that the Olympics are coming to London in 2012, the frontman of Gorillaz and Blur is clearly qualified to head the artistic campaign for the games.

As it turns out, Albarn is currently the front runner, being considered above Stephen Daldry (director of The Reader, The Hours, and Billy Elliot). The artistic director of the Olympics is in charge of the opening and closing ceremonies, which were notably insane in Beijing last year. No word on what Albarn would have in store for the 2012 games. Hopefully it will be more well thought out than the 2012 Olympics Logo, which has been described as looking like Lisa Simpson Giving Head.
