Damon Albarn Debuts Song From 'Dr Dee' Opera
So we’re probably not getting any more Gorillaz songs for a while and the Blur reunion seems to have faltered. But Damon Albarn is keeping himself busy nonetheless. Apparently the singer has written an opera about a 16th century astrologer, alchemist, and spy named John Dee. The production is named Dr Dee and will debut at the Manchester International Festival. It will star Albarn, who will be taking his character-based songwriting to a logical extreme. You can check out a radio rip of one of the songs from the opera below, which has a quietly introspective feel to it and, of course, Albarn’s instantly recognizable vocal style. [via CoS]
