Daily Mail Reveals More Of Linda McCartney's Yoko-Isms

The Daily Mail's one paper attack on Linda McCartney's reputation pre-marriage-to-Paul continues today with another excerpt from Howard Sounes' biography, Fab: An Intimate Life of Paul McCartney. In this passage we learn Linda passed on sleeping with Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane because she had a Beatle on her mind

'I was making my moves, and she just turned me down. ‘She says: “I’m going to be with the biggest guy in the world.” She told me flat out — she had her sights set on somebody and that was that.’

There was one remaining problem: Linda’s five-year-old daughter Heather from her short-lived marriage to an anthropologist. Paul’s summons for Linda to London had come just before Heather was about to start school in Manhattan. Although Linda quickly found someone to look after her daughter, she later reflected sadly: ‘I must have been quite irresponsible to think that a five-year-old kid is starting school for the first time, and I’m buzzing off leaving her.’ She moved into Paul’s bachelor squalor in late September 1968.

Within three weeks, he was telling little Heather on the phone that he was thinking of marrying Mummy. Apart from being his lover, Linda was also becoming a steadfast lieutenant in the looming Beatles wars, as the band started falling apart.

But the bigger revelation, apparently, is that Linda wasn't always a nice person?:

Almost everybody I interviewed who knew her personally spoke very warmly of her, yet people in the media — myself included — found her a gauche, abrasive woman lacking in charm. Members of her family maintain that she never wanted to be in the public eye — yet both she and Paul manipulated and exploited the Press from the start.

This is starting to have the stink of a hatchet job (if it didn't already), because as I said earlier this week, who didn't want to marry a Beatle in 1967? I mean, if I had a time machine, one of the things I might do is go back and marry a Beatle. Read more here.
