Cracked has been stepping it up with their randomly short music lists these days, and today they have a list detailing seven music trends that they think need not return. Among obvious picks like child exploitation in rap (number seven), hair metal (number four), and numbers as group names (number five), is their pick for number one: song-specific dances.
Their dig at the success of Soulja Boy’s dance seems a tad bit late (and less funny than Ice-T’s critique), but that dance reached into the zeitgeist less than “The Macarena” or “The Locomotion.” The only people I ever saw do the Soulja Boy dance was a younger cousin who did it for a laugh during a slow song (I think it was “My Heart Will Go On” but I can’t remember) at a wedding, and random 13-year-olds on YouTube. It’s not like 70-year-olds were doing it at baseball games like they did for “The Macarena.”
At any rate, Cracked says we have to make sure to stop the infiltration of another song-specific dance into our culture. Oh, and cut down on dudes as ugly chicks (that masterpiece is at number three). [Cracked]
