Not that it's ever shocking to hear that something new and dramatic has befallen Courtney Love , but in case you're still paying attention, here's the latest: All the money in Kurt Cobain 's estate, which was supposed to go to daughter Frances Bean? Gone. It seems that after years of not exactly minding the store (we don't need to rehash the stories of addiction and rehabilitation...and addiction and rehabilitation....and so on, like that), Love cleaned up just in time to notice that more than $30M and $500M in real estate had been pilfered. In statements given to Page Six , Love's lawyer, Rhonda J. Holmes, didn't mince words about how this whole mess likely happened:
"Courtney noticed the money was gone when there wasn't any left. It's no secret she struggled with substance-abuse issues, but in the last year she's taken a more serious approach to sobriety and started noticing things were wrong. She hired private investigators, accountants and me."
and there's more:
"When Mr. Cobain died in 1994, he left his enormously wealthy estate behind for the benefit of his mother, two sisters, a brother, his wife and young daughter. Many of those [involved with] the estate's coffers mismanaged, stole and outright looted it shamelessly."
That's a staggering amount of money to misplace. These cases normally take years to litigate are are total circuses, and there's no reason to think this one will be any different. Especially not if Holmes is right about how bad things are:
"I have never seen such greed and moral turpitude," says the lawyer. " This case is going to make Bernard Madoff look warm and fuzzy." [ NY Post ]
