British comedian Russell Brand learned that there are lines not to be crossed in the United States, even jokingly. While we will apparently stand for our president being called retarded and giggle at the expense of R. Kelly’s legal troubles, no one on this planet is allowed to poke fun at the Jonas Brothers’ promise rings. That’s the kind of humor that requires a hasty apology. Though most in the music industry are willing to let this small hypocrisy die down, Courtney Love is not going to let the incident pass without mention. Love recently posted on her MySpace page that she “loved” Brand, and “was damned proud of him.” Lest the message be entirely positive, Love also noted that the Jonas Brothers were “assholes with chastity rings.” Though it’s nice to see a musician speak out in favor of Brand’s humor (if not the views that inform it), if the only person willing to defend Brand is Courtney Love, he should buy a ticket back to London. The United States either isn’t ready for his comedy or to admit that the VMAs enforced a morals code. [Contact Music]

I have to say that I didn't know crap about him, but thought he did a good job on Sunday. |

I've been a big fan of his for awhile now and I thought he did really well. People need to lighten up. |

Ah wrong actually, Russell Brand is the Dane Cook of British comedy. Everyone around him is funnier (The Mighty Boosh, Bill Bailey, Steve Coogan), his comedy sucks, end of, he's famous because he screws a lot of women. Why do you think Apatow put him in that movie, because he's not funny either. Sorry Russell, Jerry Sienfeld and Henry Rollins both do the observational thing better and you are a girl for apologizing to the Jonas Bitches. |

u forgot to mention love's comments about the VMA's being too "urban." i guess being a coke-whore and a talent-less slut wasn't enough after riding off of kurt cobain's talents. |

You know if coutney love says its ok then its ok but wait last time I checked driving your famous husband into killing himself wasnt ok. The Jonas are doing something good and right something that everyone should do. I love russell until he did that I know he was joking but still if your just trying to become famous in the states you do not verbally shoot down one of its beloved, young, innocent band of brothers! I am just saying. |

Russell Brand is the dude. People are just too quick to shoot down the loud, strange looking guy from England. Beneath the brash exterior he is a humble, intelligent guy that also happens to be pretty damn funny too. But... he's also a bit of an attention seeker and quite fame mad - alas he'll often do whatever is necessary to get noticed!
