Country stars sell out for free nights at Red Roof Inns

Here’s a weird bit of corporation-rock collision: Country stars like Phil Vassar and Little Big Town have licensed music for use as wake-up calls and music for callers on hold to Red Roof Inns in their hotels. The chain, which noticed a lot of country music fans staying at their hotels, thought the partnership would be perfect. And Vassar and Little Big Town, having no qualms about what essentially amounts to jingle writing, loved it too.

But I say, why end there? What’s post-rock fans hotel of choice? Marriott? Play Tortoise on the phones there. It’s a well-known fact that fans of Chicago rappers only stay at Howard Johnsons, so, pump the Cool Kids and Lupe through the phones in those hotels. [NY Times]
