In an altruistic gesture, we are about to save the life of Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst. Backstory: The linchpin of the Omaha indie scene is getting set to release an album under his own name on August 5 and launch a worldwide tour to support it. His band for the tour will include drummer Jason Boesel of Rilo Kiley, which records for Oberst's Team Love label. So it's not a huge stretch that Rilo Kiley's singer, indie-rock heartthrob Jenny Lewis, will be joining Oberst on some of his U.S. dates.
So, out of sheer good will for humankind and a desire not to see blood needlessly spilled, we thought we'd spell that out carefully, for fear that poor Oberst, not exactly a hulking brute of a man, will get his innocent skull caved in by hasty male indie-rock fans who may have seen postings of this news with the words "Conor Oberst," "dates," and "Jenny Lewis" clumped close together, and been motivated to jump to potentially fatal conclusions.
You don't have to thank us, Conor, just save us some good seats for your New York show. And you'd probably do well to steer clear of Scarlett Johansson too. "But she's married," you say. Yeah, whatever...
