Common invited to audition for JLA movie

While the rest of the geek world debates who should play Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, rapper Common has been asked to audition for an unspecified role in the upcoming Justice League of America movie. It's a stretch to think that Common could be up for a role as one of the big three; rumblings are that he'll be testing for the role of Green Lantern. The title of Green Lantern has been passed to a few characters in the DCU, and the John Stewart incarnation was one of the highest profile minority characters in the company's history. Though this might seem like an obvious fit, the role of Martian Manhunter, a longtime member of the team, could be tailored for nearly any actor. I'm personally hoping that director George Miller is going with an all hip-hop cast, gives Mos Def the Flash role, and fills in the rest of the cast with the Wu.

I seriously hope Common does become Green Lantern. He could so pull that off. I just hope this movie doesn't suck. How are they gonna stick all these people in bright costumes in one movie without it looking ridiculous? And all of those powers are gonna cost major fx $$$. But here is my wishlist anyway - Green Lantern = Common. Batman = Gerard Butler. Superman = Tom Welling. Wonder Woman = Jennifer Connelly. Flash = Ryan Reynolds. Aquaman = Thomas Jane. Martian Manhumter = Lawrence Fishburne. If they make that happen even stupid costumes won't kill the movie.

Common, the Green Lantern? He'd lose a ton of street cred for taking on such a role. That is, if the suit he's wearing happens to be green, and tight... ouch.

Wait, Common still had street cred? Doesn't he put in regular appearances at Starbuckses across the land?

I think it was Kate Sullivan of the LA Weekly who said Common currently resembles Gordon of Sesame Street. If this whole Green Lantern business doesn't work out, maybe he's got a calling over at PBS.
