Common took a break from talking about his beef with Drake this past weekend to attend Dwyane Wade’s thirtieth birthday party in South Beach, Fla. He, T.I., and Rick Ross all took the stage to perform at the event and it was during Common’s set that the Miami Heat guard received a special gift from his fellow Chicago native.
Common freestyled for three straight minutes over the beat for “Celebrate,” off his The Dreamer/The Believer album, and didn’t miss a step. It’s rare that rappers actually freestyle off the top these days — most “freestyles” are just written verses over an industry beat — so this isn’t solely entertaining; it’s refreshing, too.
