The Gossip sign with Columbia

So who didn't see this one coming? With all the attention the band's been receiving in the press of late it was only a matter of time before someone made The Gossip an offer they couldn't refuse. As it turns out, it was Columbia subsidiary Music With A Twist. The label is promoting itself as "the first major music label dedicated to identifying and developing lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans gendered (LGBT) artists." The Gossip plan on having a new album out before the end of the year.
Good on them for "making it" as it were, but you've gotta feel for Kill Rock Stars. Just once you'd like to see them reap the benefits of one of their bands blowing up. They deserve their own Shins or Interpol windfall.

An LGBT label? The idea of such a thing would never have crossed my mind. Good for the band, though. I just hope they don't get even poppier than they did on the last album (they're in good company in today's news with Modest Mouse and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I guess). I miss their trashy bluesy stuff. But they're still excellent.

The Gossip are definitely on a roll.It does sthink that all these KRS bands end up leaving, but hopefully those back catalogs sell well.
