It feels like forever since Cold War Kids released an album , but that’s probably only because they’ve laid fairly low since 2008’s Loyalty to Loyalty. (In fact, they quietly put out an EP, Behave Yourself, in 2009.) Road weary and party leery, apparently, the band toned things down significantly recently, hence the seeming silence on their end. But in a press release, the Kids announced that their third album, titled Mine is Yours, is slated for release on January 25, 2011. The new songs – written during a period when things got a lot more domestic for the band – will, per lead singer Nathan Willett, address issues close to the heart and home:
"I got home from tour and realized I was married. All my friends had either jumped in the deep end of a relationship or had drowned. When did things get so serious? We fought growing up but the wild nights and free for all caught up to us. Some people got out in time and others had permanent damage. For this record, I wrote about the joys and failures of commitment all around me.”
The 11-track album was produced by Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Modest Mouse) and recorded in both Nashville and L.A. In the lead up to the album's release, the band will be playing shows across the country on a tour that kicks off in California. Dates are below:
