Via: BillboardDeath Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla is making the most of his band's downtime this year by working on a solo album. Walla's plan is to finish the album, titled It's Unsustainable, sometime in May and hopes to release the album this coming fall via Barsuk, Death Cab's label of choice before jumping ship to Atlantic.
So what should we expect from a Walla solo album? Apparently nothing out of the ordinary. "In production and sound, it will be very similar to a Death Cab album. . . . Two tracks stem from the writing session that spawned 'Brothers on a Hotel Bed' [from Death Cab's 2006 album, Plans]--[frontman] Ben [Gibbard] didn't really know what to do with them. I've also written some new songs recently."
Walla will play all the instruments that appear on It's Unsustainable with the exception of drums, which will be covered by Nathan Good and Jason McGerr--Death Cab's skinmen past and present. A tour is a distinct possibility, with Walla eyeing club-size venues for the trek. "One of the things I miss so much now that Death Cab is playing such big places is driving the van. I was the driver on the last five tours before Plans came out."
