Chris Martin Calls Lawsuits "Really Inspiring"

Coldplay are up to their Sgt. Pepper jackets in lawsuits and plagiarism claims these days, but in an interview on Coldplay.com, Martin called the lawsuits "really inspiring."

“Yeah, some people are suing us at the moment and although it was initially a bit depressing, now it’s become really inspiring. You think, ‘Right, if everyone’s trying to take away our best song, then we’d better write 25 better ones.’ And so just at the point where I was thinking about getting fat and becoming complacent, I’ve been finding more inspiration. Now we’ve got more to prove than ever before.”

Personally, I'd like to see them prove they can make music that doesn't overtly rip off The Bends. I could care less about Joe Satriani, Cat Stevens or Creaky Boards. But Martin's comments are also a big middle finger to Satriani, because it's saying that they don't care that they may have accidently plagiarized him. But hey, whatever inspires you bro. [24 Bit]

i personally believe this is unbelievable, i dont have any bone to pick with satriani, he's an awesome guitarist, but you gotta question yourself, how come he didnt become world renoun with that tune? And being a muscian myself, you screw around on the piano and guitar you think you have something, and you realize when you play it for someone, there like, thats so and so's song. It happens, get over it. Satriani, jus because you didnt get famous writing it and someone else did doesn't mean you get to throw a hissy fit a sue a world class band. Sorry, your outa place big time.

Hafta agree, it' s the price you pay being a citizen in the modern world. we pick influences without even knowing it. There are multiple examples in the history of music and art. Unless Coldplay were trying to pretend to BE Satriani, I'd take it as a compliment.

This is the the bit that got me though: "And so just at the point where I was thinking about getting fat and becoming complacent."

I hardly think with the limited range Coldplay has displayed so far that as artists it's anywhere near time for complacency. As far as I'm concerned they've only proven they can sell records. I'm still waiting to find out if they can do something really interesting.
